MLP makers on Picrew are mostly portrait makers for pony OCs. This page is a portrait maker too, with one difference to state up front: it draws people, not ponies. What you get is a human-style version of your pony, in the spirit of the Equestria Girls films, where the characters keep their colors as humans.

It opens in portrait mode on the Hair tab. The mane is the most recognizable part of any pony, so start there.

Carrying a pony over to a portrait

Four things transfer directly.

Coat color becomes skin color. Set it in Skin and ears with the color picker.
Mane becomes hair. Choose a big shape: Long wavy, Twin tails or Flipped ends.
Eye color stays. Sparkle eyes fit the show's style.
Cutie mark becomes a sticker. The Star sticker under Details sits on the cheek in your accent color.

Pony kind in a headshot

In a portrait there is less room, so use one clear signal. Wings show at the shoulders, so Angel wings work for a pegasus. A Crown suggests a unicorn or royalty. Bat wings and a Fang suggest a bat pony. An earth pony needs nothing extra, only strong mane colors.

Backgrounds from the show
