Picrew Character Maker

"Character maker" and "character creator" are the phrases Picrew uses for itself, and they describe what people want from it: a way to turn a description into a picture. Writers use it for cast lists, game masters for non-player characters, roleplayers for profiles.

This page is set up for that kind of work. It starts with a neutral, everyday character and focuses on making many consistent characters fast.

Building a whole cast

One character is easy. Ten characters that look like they belong in the same story is the real job. Because every character here shares one art style, a cast made in this maker looks like a set.

Work in passes. Make the lead first and press Copy link to keep it. Then press Randomize a few times for supporting characters and adjust each result. Random starting points break your habits and give you faces you would not have designed on purpose.

Keeping characters distinct

A reader or player should be able to tell your cast apart from silhouettes and colors alone.

• Give each character one hair shape. Do not reuse a hairstyle within the main cast.
• Assign each character a color. Use it on their top or accessory in every scene.
• Vary the eyes. Round, Sharp, Sleepy and Dot eyes create four different temperaments on the same face.
• Use glasses, scars and freckles sparingly. One feature per character is easier to remember than three.

Saving and sharing designs

The PNG is the picture. The link is the design file. Copy link stores the full character in the URL itself, so pasting it into your notes gives you an editable version forever. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account to lose.
