Picrew permissions explained

Every image maker on Picrew belongs to the artist who drew it. Four labels on each maker tell you what you may do with the pictures you create. Here is what they mean in practice.

The four labels

The labels appear on every maker page and in search results. A lit label means the artist allows that use. A greyed label means it is not allowed.

LabelWhat it coversTypical example
PersonalPrivate, individual use that earns no money.A profile picture on your own social account.
Non-CommercialUse by groups or organizations where no money is made.An icon for a free community server or a club page.
CommercialAny use connected to earning money.A monetized stream avatar, a book cover, merchandise.
ProcessingChanging the image after you save it.Cropping, recoloring, adding text or drawing over it.

The description can add more rules

The labels are the minimum. Artists often write extra conditions in the maker description, and those apply too. Common ones include:

  • Credit the artist or link the maker when you post the picture.
  • Do not remove a watermark or signature.
  • Do not use the pictures for AI training or NFTs.
  • Do not claim the art as your own drawing.

Common situations

A few cases come up again and again.

  • Profile picture: needs Personal. If you want to crop it into a circle yourself, also check Processing.
  • Editing the image: needs Processing. Without it, post the picture exactly as Picrew produced it.
  • Monetized channel or stream: treat it as Commercial.
  • Character in a published story or game: needs Commercial if the project earns money.

If the rules do not fit your project

When a maker does not allow what you need, the respectful options are to choose another maker, commission an artist, or use a tool with open terms. Characters made with the OC maker on this site can be used for personal and commercial projects and can be edited freely, as set out in our terms.

This page is a plain-language summary and not legal advice. Picrew's own Terms of Use and each maker's description are the authority.

Questions people ask

OC Maker Studio is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Picrew or TetraChroma Inc.

Can I use a Picrew image as my profile picture?

Yes, if the maker has the Personal label lit and the description does not say otherwise.

Can I edit a Picrew image?

Only if the Processing label is lit. If it is greyed out, use the image without changes.

Can I sell something with a Picrew image on it?

Only if the maker allows Commercial use. Many makers do not, so check the label and the description.

Do I have to credit the artist?

It depends on the maker. Many artists ask for credit in the description. Crediting is good practice even when it is not required.
